Dillmates.

Thank you as always.

Today marks the End of World War II Memorial Day.
Although I belong to a generation that hasn't experienced war firsthand, as someone born in the Showa era who grew up hearing vivid, real-life stories from those who lived through it, today is a day that leaves me with much to reflect upon.

While I don't know if a time will ever come when every single person on Earth can live in peace, I intend to spend today feeling deep gratitude for our peaceful daily lives, holding utmost respect for the older generations who worked tirelessly for Japan's recovery from the end of the war to the present day.

Furthermore, my heartfelt thoughts go out to all those affected by the recent earthquake centered in Kumamoto Prefecture and yesterday's torrential rain centered in Chiba Prefecture. I sincerely hope for a swift recovery for everyone impacted.

Compared to late July, the heat in Uji City has calmed down a bit, and we're seeing an increase in foreign tourists strolling around the town.
Here at our shop, we expected many locals as well as people returning to their hometowns to drop by during this Obon period. However, it seems that the vast majority are heading out to central Kyoto City instead.

This might be a classic Kyoto thing—since Kyoto City has so many temples and graves, people often go there for grave visits and combine that with dining out or shopping. Plus, Uji City still has few accommodations and hardly any eateries open late into the night, so it naturally makes sense that many choose central Kyoto City to relax with family and friends.

At Dillmates, we've had more slow moments than expected, leaving us wondering "Huh?", but considering how many people have visited us since our opening in May, we're taking this positively as a "little breather."

As those who have visited us know, our shop is quite small, so there aren't many opportunities to take your time and shop comfortably inside. If you visit us right now, you can enjoy chatting with our staff without feeling rushed.

Since today's post isn't about new arrivals, we'd like to introduce a few items currently recommended by our staff. Be sure to check them out!
